Monday resets for working moms: Nurturing a Positive Start to the Week

For many working moms, Mondays can be challenging. The weekend is over, and it’s time to dive back into the busy world of work and responsibilities. As a parent, I’ve noticed that my daughter also experiences a sense of change and restlessness on Mondays. She seems to sense that the dynamic of our daily routine shifts, and she misses having her Amma (mom) with her throughout the day.

As I strive to find a balance between my career and motherhood, I’ve discovered the importance of creating Monday resets to ensure a positive start to the week for both of us.

Here are some strategies that have helped us smooth down the Monday blues:

  1. Mindful Mornings:
Start the day with a calm and positive mindset. Instead of rushing, wake up a little earlier to spend quality time with your child. Engage in simple activities like cuddling, reading a story, or having a leisurely breakfast together. This special time can set the tone for the rest of the day.
  2. Organized Weekend Preparation:
Make the most of your weekend by planning and preparing for the upcoming week. Lay out your child’s clothes, pack their lunch, and ensure that all necessary items for work are ready. This proactive approach can ease the stress of Monday mornings.
  3. Create a Special Send-Off Ritual:
Saying goodbye can be emotional for both you and your child. Develop a unique send-off ritual that comforts your little one and reassures them that you’ll be back soon. A special hug, a secret handshake, or a loving phrase can create a sense of security.
  4. Communicate with Your Child:
Talk to your child about your work and why it’s essential. Explain that you love them dearly and that work is one of the ways you provide for them. Assure them that you’ll be eagerly waiting to spend time together once you’re back home.
  5. Stay Connected During the Day:
If possible, find moments to connect with your child during your work hours. A quick video call or a sweet message can brighten both of your days. Remember, it’s the quality of connection that matters, not just the quantity of time spent together.
  6. Reflect and Adjust: Take some time on Mondays to reflect on the previous week’s achievements and challenges. Use this reflection to make any necessary adjustments to your work-life balance and priorities for the week ahead.

Remember, every working mom’s journey is unique, and what works for one may not work for another. The key is to be flexible and find solutions that suit your family’s needs. By implementing Monday resets and fostering a positive atmosphere, you can navigate the week ahead with greater ease and create meaningful connections with your child, even amidst the busy demands of work.

  1. I work part-time at McDonald’s it’s all night shift work any 3 to 6 hour blocks starting at 6pm and finishing at 2am. I feel so guilty because I am always so tired. The nights I finish at 2 am, I always wake up late, and it’s a mad dash out the door for school and appointments. Like I need to work to pay for everything, but I feel so guilty for doing so. Most days, I will nap while the kids are at school. Then nothing gets done, so it gets done once I’m home from school pick up.
