How to deal with Gender Disappointment: Embracing the Emotional Complexity

Welcoming a new life into the world is undoubtedly a joyous occasion, accompanied by excitement and anticipation. However, amidst the anticipation of parenthood, some expectant parents may experience a complex emotion known as “gender disappointment.” Gender disappointment is a genuine and valid feeling that arises when the baby’s gender does not align with the parent’s expectations or desires. I have been surrounded by women all my life. I love each one of them and will stand with them through any battle. When we were pregnant, I wanted to have a boy for I thought it will be a fresh perspective. Moreover, the familial pressures that are present in India added to that fire. Relatives said that I will have another one who will be a boy. But what if it isn’t.
